Lasso up a card for this coming FATHER'S DAY!  Conjure up the perfect card for that special 'DUDE' ?
Let em know that as DAD - he's #1 - and this card ought to do that!

I was thinking of how to represent the ol west when I didn't have any cowboy stamps per se, nothing western at all - zip, nada!  Then I thought that the Sheriff's Badge would be easy enough to make if you broke it down to basic parts - basically, its a circle with pointy triangles, nes pa?

So that is what I did!

1) first I cut me a circle with our 1-3/4 inch CIRCLE PUNCH.

2) make them thar pointy parts!

         To Make Triangles for the Sheriff's Star Badge

•         cut a strip of cardstock twich as wide  than the length of your points, and about 6 inches in length
•          score a half-way line down the center of the length
• then draw a series of large X's across the entire width of the cardstock - make the width of each equal to the width of your desired point - the 'points' emerge as you draw,  - you'll see! After, cut out those 'triangles' - make sure you  have enough for the Texas Star shape - 5 tips but it can also have 6 tips!
•           When done cutting the triangles - score each one down its center length.

3) Map out where the points go on your star - around the circumference of the circle - I practiced, and then glued each triangle to the back of the circle.

4) Optional - but interesting to add # 1 to the newly-formed Sheriff's Badge!   I cut mine from some scrap of foil lining from a chocolate box - shiny is good!

5) Mount your star on a background of cardstock - but let's make it interestin' Dudes and Dudettes!  Choose our Vintage Embossing Folder to give it that stylized Western scroll look - they used to have these fancy-smancy designs on their rifles/guns/badges - buckles!  Even leather was embossed in them thar days!  LAYER this all on to the CARD FRONT.

6) Embellish friends!
 Add a Lasso  fashioned out of twine- and you can even lasso up a touch of 'love' while yer at it!
  I shaped mine and glued it as I went along!  Heart shaped, the word ' Love ' for good measure at the tail end.....take your time, use thick glue which dries fast like our TOMBOW GLUE.   We have some great twine in our SUMMER MINI CATALOQUE - check it out!!!

I also inked the edges of the embossed Natural White layer - first with Daffodil Delight {yellow}, 

then with Espresso { brown }.

To make the star seem more 'Official' - I added silver brads to each point!

DON'T FORGET - JUNE 19th = FATHER'S DAY

Already making a Father's Day Card - but for good reason.  A friend lives out of town and I wanted them to not have to dig around for a card this coming Father's Day.

Their dad is a truck driver of a big rig!   So I approached this in a novel way.....first I downloaded an image of a big rig from a colouring book site {see below}.  Yes - these are for the little ones to colour!  But then - I printed the image and cut a border around it AND then drew in some basic scenery!

Here is a downloaded image - close to the one I used - from a coloring book website. 

"google" your subject - be sure to add the word 'image' so: "big rig image" is how I searched for mine and then click on IMAGES in the upper left side of Google's page - and you will see tons of images to choose from, look for a colouring image, not a photo picture - and you're done!  Right Click on image and select "Save Image" - you will then find the image in your saved picture files - mine shows up under 'Recently Changed'.  Select it and choose Print. 

Stampin' Up's AQUA PAINTER BRUSH did the next trick, along with our WATERCOLOUR PENCILS!

I sketched some colour in to the various areas - nothing fancy, as I love to use a painting technique where colouring in the lines is not required!  The looser your technique - the better!

Once coloured - I "prepped" the Aqua Painter Brush by tapping and squeezing til water wets the actual bristles of the brush {you'll see a drop of water emerge}......and then I lightly went over the coloured areas, creating a watercolour effect as I went along.  Very easy to do!

I layered the painted piece onto cardstocks, and made a few additional ACCENTS!   The COMPASS STAMP is from one of our more recent stamp sets and the CIRCLEs are from our 1 Inch Punch with our SILVER BRADS.

TIP - it is much better to "stamp" an image in one of our water-resistant inks {Basic Gray, Basic Black or even Stazon Ink} - but in a pinch, be careful to avoid smearing the ink of the image with the water.  Not that hard, and a light smearing is fine - don't panic!  Cuz what is the rule of hand-made?  THERE ARE NO MISTAKES!

Hi to all you stampers and crafters!

I am feeling perkier!  Still have to take it easy but I did clean up my awfully messy craft table!  Gosh - what a process that is!  Don't you wish the Crafting Clean-Up Fairies (or Elves - equal opportunist here!) would come in the night and do it for us?

Well - I did have a fire lit up underneath me to do something for  a nice person, as I only had 1 opportunity to see them before Father's Day.  And to show my appreciation to this person, I decided to do it in a round about way and help their son make his own Father's Day card!

So a card kit was born!

I threw the supplies all together, and I took the liberty of doing one or two steps for them. They will assemble everything - and I left it so they have some 'choices' in the final design.

I created a word document to outline instructions, and printed it off and tucked it in with everything.  Here's is how it looked - the separate elements are there including: a card base, two layers for the card front, and several accent pieces including the greeting, and lastly the instructions.

Here is my suggested version - which I included in a illustration I made in the instructions.  But they can do as they wish - maybe put the greeting on the inside?  

Because this is for a young person, I personally coloured the image as it was a bit complicated to do without the right tools - and I was unsure as to what they had.  But there is plenty for them to do to assemble this card - and sign it with a few words, a poem, or add a picture inside......lots of ideas!

Last thing - I embossed a plain envelope with the same design.  I put this all together into a clear cellophane bag and dropped in a fresh glue stick.  So its going to transform into a one-of-a-kind  Father's Day Card that any young person would be happy to give their Dad!   I have found from experience, that young people really appreciate getting some help and LOVE to give their parents a gift, and without costing them money - and the parent(s) are especially THRILLED to find a little appreciation without the need to help the young person themselves.  So its a win-win!

If you have some supplies to make a CARD KIT - why not do it and share with someone who may have nothing in this craft at their disposal.  You'll all appreciate it in some small measure.

I have done this once before where I traced a copper cookie cutter I own, a fleur-de-lis design, and used it as a template for a card!

But this time around, I went with darker tones and a medieval theme. And I went 'big' using a full sheet of 8.5 x 11 - because someone I know {you know who you are! :)} is always after me to show them a 'BIG' card - so here it is!

Need: a cookie cutter of choice

stamp to co-ordinate with cookie cutter

ink & cardstock 8.5x11 in 2 colours of choice

wheel - Illuminations

ruler - to measure out diamond shapes, arch

How to: on one colour 8.5x11 cardstock {ie. black}, fold in half lengthwise and.....

a) begin by tracing out cookie cutter on 2nd colour cardstock to make a cookie cutter shape,

-cut outline of cookie cutter shape with scissors, ink edges for distressed look, and decorate with your stamp using the 'stamping off' technique to get the lighter 'background' images, set aside,

-take your main stamp {i.e. fleur-de-lis stamp}, stamp 3x onto a scrap of the same cardstock , cut each image out, set them aside,

-glue your cut-out stamped images on {I chose to glue mine inside a border I inked on with a 'line' stamp - but you can also create a border by using tape.} and/or use glue dots to attach them,

b) meanwhile, make a border using same cardstock as cookie cutter ,

-decorate your border and distress edge with slightly darker coloured ink {use a co-ordinating colour as cardstock or a greyish colour}, {use ruler to make diamond shapes, cut out}

add brads to border,

-glue border near bottom third of card

c)glue down cookie cutter cut-out shape

d) using an 'arch' shape mask {cut out large arch shape with scrap cardstock and tape or hold down over cookie cutter cut-out and some bordering area} and ink on a design to top corners with a large stamp, or wheel stamp {Illuminations wheel, Stampin' Up!}...also 'chalk' on an arch shape using ink along edges of arch mask and can decorate bottom edge with same wheel design.

Take your time - its not very hard, just a bit time consuming. Use with any cookie cutter too.

Note - all supplies by Stampin' Up! [black cardstock, green galore cardstock, black ink, silver brads, retired fleur-de-lis stamp, Illuminations stamp wheel]
