Box with Flower

If you happened to see the post below about sponging up embossed paper with ink - swiping the ink away to reveal the embossed pattern again, then you will recognize that I used this idea once more on my box lid!

In fact, that is how this box came to be!  I started inking and created 2 small squares of our Bridal Paper in white, re-inked to a pinky-red and a yellow.

Then I tripped over a small lid in my drawer. It has been there about a year!  It was made using our mini-scallop envelope, and I guess I got distracted and left it - or maybe I ran out of inspiration.

However - armed with the two pieces of scrap paper and a box lid - I had inspiration at last! The squares fit perfectly inside the box lid - and this all culminated in my creating this box. What I also think is nifty is the flower I stuck on top. That's an idea my daughter pointed out to me in a gift store - a small photo album had a fake flower on its cover. I was on a roll!  I decided to add beads - so with soft bead wire, I created the little beaded corners (this requires patience! but its not all that hard).

So with a few tweaks and a few twists, I finished my box and it is sitting in my china cabinet, now I just need an occasion to use it for - it would make a really nice gift box don't you think?

Thanks for dropping by!

Cheers!

Pretty Storage Box with Pockets

Hi - I just dropped in with a quick post - I will come back and tweak it up better, so bear with me here! (so nice outside that I just have to get out there!)

Here's a great project to do if you need some pretty storage!   It measures perfectly to contain 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 in. cards, or I made some receipes and put those inside. I plan on making more of these!

It's a simple box with a Scallop Circle to decorate the front - very simple, but looks fab once you decorate it!!!

The pockets are a separate part - and once I had made one,( mark down the measurements for the first couple of times to refer to) - I got my " groove on " and made several....and could of kept on going  making tons!

I found the idea from the fabulous Lauren Meader who sells the templates for these, but they were easy enough to figure out and I just made up my own template.  I can post the measurements here later on this week-end, so come on back!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

....and I hope everyone is having a lovely, lovely holiday!  Since we celebrate our big affair on Christmas Eve, today I am in pajamas - which is my personal tradiition ...uhm-mmmm... soft new pj's, and floppin' about without a care in the world!  It's so great!  Now last night, we had a satisfying dinner (tummy aches after and all), and the lovely priviledge to have a 'family member' join us who is turning 76 soon but doesn't look a day over 60!  And as you'd probably suspect -  we even got the dog dressed up - bells and red velvet, fluff ...although he drew the line with the reindeer antlers or fancy barettes (darn!) except he's happy with his new toys, treats, etc., etc.  - and perhaps a little miffed that for once, he wasn't the ab-so-LUTE center of our universe!  Well - suffice to say, we're doing everything we can to have a very nice holiday ourselves.

And like many of you, we were rushed right up to yesterday - right down to the last min. Why is it always like that, lol! Ah well.:)
One good reason for us was that on Monday, we shared our time and supplies with the families staying at Ronald McDonald House - and we created these really great Scrapbook-In-A-Box projects.  Due to security or unless I receive a family's permission, we can't share many of the photos I have. But here is a small photo and I've concealed the identiies of a special girl and her Mom - the lil crown and star indicate they're there! I put a silly hat on me to be equally unidentifiable - well, somewhat, lol! It's not my best look :) Anyways, anyone who made a box for the first time - was super-duper at it, terrific looking boxes! I caught one of the fathers looking at every move I was making - cutting, folding - and so I asked him if he was interested in trying - and he sure was!  He jumped in and was quite eagerly making his box!  And of course, it looked great! He loved all the little doo-dads and dedicated tools - maybe I ought to set up a table at Canadian Tire cuz that makes 2 men in a month that I've see going at this like crazy'!  Girls - make a note - get your hubby or fav guy in on this with you!  :)

Anyways, want to have your own party? Just throw some select stamps in a bucket and along with the rest of the supplies - its a great group activity!

Because of the range of ages at the RMH - this project was perfect because each family can work on one "all together", or a young person can work on one all of their own!  It doesn't matter what age is involved, because the very youngest can do what they do best -scribble  away! And using a pen or marker onto cardstock - which then can be added to the whole design - also they can help glue, put on snowflakes....its not hard. Actually, it can get a little 'sticky' when you want them to stop, ahem!

Here's another version - the one I made at our Demonstrators Holiday Party  - and below it you'll see it open when you pop off the lid It falls open - and the center section can have even more surprises if you make a small folded tag!  A loving message for grandma? A perfect suggestion also came from one of the staff - its a box to hold a cupcake!

You can go with any theme - put pictures, verses, stories - anything inside or on one or all of the 4 outer sides!  Use your imagination, but they are sooooo much fun to decorate!  My daughter is simply taken by them, and if she thinks they're cool - then that's great by me!

FUN WALL DECORATING - EASY AS CHRISTMAS PIE!

Before I go, I will show you what I have adorning our hall wall  [can we say that fast 10 times?].... I used Stampin' Up!'s Decor Elements on my wall!  They're temporary - and you can have some fun like I did!  By simply following the directions [and I suggest you do!] its a straightforward task. Here you can see the brown "FLOURISH FRAME" shape has both dots and a line border - so its momentarily a bit longer and with caution, but it works out fine in the end!

In addition,  I ordered 2 female classic stick figures and 1 dog figurine  from the "All IN THE FAMILY " section (pg 27 of our DEFINITELY DECORATIVE CATALOG  and placed them over the brown frame - and when I am finished with the holidays, off will come the lil hats!

In place of the stick figures - add words like 'Family' or 'ABC' ....well, you get the idea!

Well, I must go and take the lil guy out for his walk!
So, once again,....
Merry Christmas and a safe holiday to you all!

Keep on crafting!

Fabulous Friend Pillow Box Candy

Need a gift?  Quickly?  A Make and Tuck!
My pun on the Make and Take phrase, but a collection of these tucked in a basket and you will always be prepared to "give a little" when you need to.  Or make a collection for a friend, fund-raising and so on.

Our treat- box is made with our PILLOW BOX DIE for the  Big Shot and using CLEAR WINDOW SHEETS
 Fill with candy of choice.
SU Pillow Box Candy
Featuring….the   OVAL ALL Stamp Set painted with our  ink pads and the AQUA PAINTER brush and then punched out with the matching LARGE OVAL and SCALLOPED OVAL Punches

Stampin` Dimensionals will easily attach the greeting set to the plastic pillow box. Add ribbon shown here in OLD OLIVE GROSGRAIN.

TIPS – a) wind ribbon around the short end of the Pillow Box, to save money….b) block out the ``fabulous friend`` on the stamp, and write in a person`s name.
EXTRA USES – the Pillow Box Die can make a number of different projects such as upright, square boxes using four half pieces – or add a handle and make it look like a purse!

Have Fun – and be grateful for all the people who make our lives happier and easier!  :)

Back to School Teacher's Gift Set

Why not get off on the right foot with the teacher with a nice card and a little something to help him or her out? We know that teacher's often pay for supplies out of their own pocket and any contribution is a welcome one.

So I cooked up this idea ....a card and with it the simpliest little pocket pouches that can contain small office supplies - such as clips and push pins but it could easily be candy!

The card was a small labour of love I made not so long ago...I wanted to use up some scraps and this is one way of doing that.  I save scraps and sort them into brown bags that sit together in a large basket. So finding some strips, I laid them out over the paper layer  in one direction, alternating paper colours and patterns and secured one end of each to the card. Then I returned with strips to weave in the opposite direction. By securing the first layer's end, you can weave better. Saves endless grief re-working the positions!

Trim your ends and attach to card.

Then I decided to 'stitch' by hand.  I placed some holes in the cardstock in a pattern - could be any pattern, no rules :)  Then I used some cross-stitch thread in the green. I used more yarn to make a small home-spun looking doo-dad in the upper left corner.

A large red button is turned it into an apple simply by adding a stem/leaf which I made from more scrap paper.  To allow the apple to stand out, I separated it from the strips with 2 layers of paper underneath it.

Our Scalloped Square Punch came in handy as did my JUMBLE alphabet stamp set for the wording.....I left it at 'Best'....because you could make this card ahead and give it to your intended later on when an occasion arises, so it could be the 'best' teacher or mechanic or volunteer, etc.

I teach simple techniques for making the pouches you see here in my classes, so if you need instructions - just get in touch with me and I will share this one with you - a sort of "hello, here I am" sharing!  One could easily use these pouches for wedding favors or birthday party treats - or fill each one with chocolate - hmmm, maybe that will be another post for another day!

Here's some close-up pics - click on each to enlarge. Thanks for dropping by!

Cheers!

OVAL ALL Mix and Match Box Set.

Here is a downloadable class demonstrating the box and note cards set using the Oval All Stamp Set, Oval and Scalloped Oval co-ordinating punches.

Click for class instructions/photos HERE

Betty Traciak is responsible for this class and ultimately became the Winner in the category for submitting ideas for SU's Occasions Mini Catalog where you can buy the Scalloped Oval, Large Oval punch and the Oval All Stamp Set - her class sure has become a popular choice for good reason!

Note - Beverly's Version!

Here are my dimensions for creating the BOX outlined in the Oval All Mix and Match Class. To fit my cards in the dividers easier, I found I wanted a slightly LARGER BOX than the original dimensions cited in the class, so substitue the following measurements for box, box lid and the dividers and then continue to follow the rest of the instructions:
(in inches...)
Box = cut a 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch. square of cardstock. Score all four sides at 1 1/4 in.
Box Lid = cut a 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 inch. square of cardstock. Score all four sides at 3/4 in.
Dividers (partitions):
larger#1 divider = cut cardstock 5 7/8 x 7 7/8 in. Score at 1, 2 and 3 in. Fold.
smaller #2 divider = cut cardstock 1 x 8 in. Score at 3, 4 and 5 in. Fold.

Stamp CLub and Easter Boxes and FUN!

Time's over for March Stamp Club and this month we had the "girlz" doing their thing - having fun ! We were busy getting ready for Easter by making some very pretty Easter boxes!
During class, the girls were introduced to the Crop-A-Dile ....and judging from the photo, it was only a matter of lining up the oversized eyelet and presto, they all did a fabulous job of it! In fact, they did better than I did - watching younger people do something in half the time is a real reminder that thankfully I have "experience" on my side, lol!
They also 'delved' right into the candy-bags they made with the YUMMY stamp set and Top Note Die {Sizzix Big Shot} -- as we always do a 3rd 'mystery project' - usually something short and "sweet" , ha ha....so true in this case! I wonder if those even made it home!
You can see at the end of the class, everyone loads up with their little prizes, and the beautiful boxes they made. No one had any experience at these boxes before the class and it was nice to see how easy it really is to make such lovely projects - any one can do this!
These easy-to-do boxes are great - they looked soooo good together [see top photo] - so I'd advise that if you plan on making one - make more! I could totally see these decorating a whole table - different colours, different accents - but all unified by their shape.

#1 Mini-Scallop Envelope Box

This box is made by adhereing 4 Scallop Envelope dies {using our Big Shot } together. See my Tutorials if you want to learn how. You can embellish it best with a strip of pattern paper and ribbon and then top it off with a front "medallion" composed of matting several circles and a brad together. And as I am fond of saying, Voila!

#2 E-Z Basket with Handle
This box couldn't be any simplier! Its a basic 6 inch square, scored and a few snips and a dab of glue here and there - and that's just about it! There will be a tutorial for this as well. {keep checking as I sometimes take a break} oxox

Now - just to have some ol'fashioned fun - for the few prizes I'd made up - I had the girls compete for them by 'thumb wrestling' - yes, you read right, ha ha! It was a lot of fun to watch - my luck had me watching from the sidelines as there was just enough people to make it fair and crazy....which was lucky because my thumb has no strength or I doubt the flexibility, lol! Anyways two pairs each tied off and then the winners from those pairs faced each other down - lots of shouting and maybe a weeee bit of cheatin' attempts {gasp}....a winner emerged for First Place! But it was just as good being in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place because true to their sweet natures, they were all the best!
